STORY FOUR – PEACE BUILDING IN NORTHERN LEBANON – SYRIAN REFUGEES DREAM OF A PEACEFUL RETURN

As the Syrian war becomes more entrenched, it is deepening divisions that will take generations to heal. Syrians are taking desperate measures to get away to safety and, despite the protracted nature of the war, they dream of returning home. That dream of return may be naive, however, as the war shows no signs of abating.

Meanwhile neighbouring Lebanon is giving shelter to the greatest number of refugees per capita. While this has created some problems, the generosity of the Lebanese has helped maintain a relative calm. The generosity of a little known NGO, Relief and Reconciliation (RR), based in northern Akkar in the village of Bkarzla, has also helped.
